The RA and the Littoral Arts Trust commissioned a team of Cumbrian artists, crafts workers and local farmers to re-construct an exact replica of the original Merz barn in the courtyard entrance to the Royal Academy.  Over 300,000 people are expected to see the Merz Barn art work over the three months that the exhibition will be open to the general public in London.

Dr Penelope Curtis hopes that the Cumbrian Merz Barn art

project at the Royal Academy will help the rural community and, that it will also "..make people think about where artists make work and who gets to see it".
